"A Clean Well Lighted Place" Response

I hated the little film of "A Clean Well Lighted Place". I personally think that they ruined the short story. In the story, there was the symbolism of Light and Dark. In the story, there was an old man drinking his Brandy in the shadows of the cafe, while in the film he was just sitting there. The film followed the story exactly, but the scenery was way off. It was written in the 1940's, and the film was made in the 1990's. There was a TV in the cafe for crying out loud! Also, the characters were Irish, which to me made absolutely no sense. I just didn't appreciate how the film was completely off from the story.
